Are there two cats or are my eyes bewitching me? A benefit of this challenging that I didn't expect was a revisit with multiplying table as I pick pictures and form them into a weekly blog. All of a sudden I could vividly remember this bluish green notepad with twelve pages and a table on the back of it. I would cut it out and glue it everywhere, repeat it aloud, dream about it, going down the list and back up, sometimes my dad wouldn't let me go outside until I recited each column to him... It was a long journey and yet I found myself being stuck on 7,8 and 9 just like a five year old me did. I guess there is always room for improvement regardless of our age?
This week I've been fascinated with watching old documentaries. Pink Floyd has been on repeat with their 2019 album "Later Years" and I've learned about the talent and tragedy of Syd Barrett. I listened attentively as the world has been discussing an all time epic movie "Gone with the Wind" with #BLM movement - and for a good reason. Did you know that the search of the actress for the role of Scarlett O'Hara, that rightly so went to the upcoming actress Vivien Leigh took years? She was brilliant and unpredictable, yet I was humbled to learn about her journey with bipolar disorder. What blew my mind was that Oscars Ceremony was held separately for for the stardom of Hollywood and a talented black community celebrating best supporting role that went to the brilliant African American actress Hattie McDaniel. Another story that took for a spin was that of Frank Sinatra. Contradicting, mega talented, persistent and full of energy. I watched his documentary on Netflix and was moved by his breve calling out of all the racial bigotry and doing the right thing of fighting for his black musicians and their important role in Las Vegas scene.
I'll finish with a celebration toast! May we continue moving in the right direction of being anti-racist: seeing People behind the color of the skin or stigma imposed on us, may we finally enjoy our favorite places, restaurants and gatherings this summer!
