Can we talk yoga mats? New brands and technology surprise us every year. Amazing colors mats that are reversible with different patterns, durable, light and antibacterial. The list can go on and it makes me very happy. Today I want to go back to the roots however and tell you about my #jademat. It is now over 3 years old and is still in very good shape. It has some normal wear and tear, like couple threads coming from the front and not very noticeable stains from hot yoga classes. That's one of the benefits of good ol' natural rubber! Jade mat comes in at least 9 beautiful colors, it weighs 4,5 lbs which is a little over 2 kilos. Great news is that it is 3/16 inch thick or 4.76 mm which is nice padding for your body. On average you'll pay $75 for this mat. Here is a break down of what I learnt about my Jade in these 3 years.
I'll start with pros ✅:
1️⃣ durable, made out of natural rubber and no PVC (Most yoga mats are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), also knows as vinyl. PVC is toxic during every stage of its life cycle. It is toxic during its manufacture; it is toxic to the end consumers; and it is toxic during its disposal)
2️⃣ not slippery and great for hot yoga
3️⃣ easy to clean with soap and water.
➖ cons: 1️⃣ the ends curl after a while and they don't get straightened for a while. If you are very dedicated, I would recommend to unroll it when you get home. 2️⃣ spend time cleaning it throughly - it will pay back in a VERY long life
🌎conclusion: I won't rediscover the world for you by saying that normal wear and tear is unavoidable and it will depend on how often you use your mat and how well you take care of it. I didn't have a mat bag for mine and unfortunately I definitely forgot to clean it couple of times, so it has some threads that are coming out from the corner and minor stains. However, it's still in great shape and I love practicing on it. If you are like me and want to support companies that give back, Jade is one of them . They plant a tree 🌳 for every mat sold in partnership with "Trees for the future". So far over 1,440,000 trees have been planted. I chose a teal mat because it's one of my favorite colors and $5 was donated to ovarian cancer charities. How cool is that? Bottom line, I love my jade mat and I hope this will help you to find your perfect mat.
